SOUTH TEXAS NATION MEDIA
South Texas Nation Media promotes heritage and new economy that synergize with environmental sustainability. In this vein, we've revised three farmers markets in south Texas, small-scale industry that reduces chemical agrarian runoff and food-mileage, yet which brings health and freshness benefits to low-access neighborhoods. Other projects have included Cafe Texas Food Revolution (also known as Cafe on Elizabeth), a nine-month pop-up kitchen introducing fresh farmers market food to an epicenter of Latinx obesity and diabetes. Not to forget our most enjoyable "go-local" work, social marketing and strategy for the Padre Island Brewing Company, the original south Texas micro-brewery.

Supporting Sustainable Heritage Economy
Buttressing a south Texas heritage industry that is deeply engrained in the local cuisine, Shrimp Outlet represents exactly the type of business that South Texas Nation Media aims to support — one with deep ties to local history and culture and that practices environmentally sustainable production. Besides building advertisements for this important local business, we established conduits for their Gulf-caught shrimp to restaurants and farmers markets, strengthening a local-food network that also supports sustainable marine harvesting.
Driving Artisanal Environmental Industry
Our work with south Texas farmers markets includes advertising and marketing, but also recruiting new farmers and vendors whose products benefit community health and environmental sustainability. By recruiting Latinx farmers who practice historic sustainable growing methods, and coaching new farmers with these same approaches, South Texas Nation Media has assisted in growing an economy of environmental sustainability that is creating new economic opportunity in an economically depressed region.
Innovative Communication Strategies
This is a delicious photograph of The Around-the-Valley-Roll, a rice-less sushi roll filled with only ingredients hand picked at a south Texas farmers market. In order to introduce farmers market shoppers to new ingredients and innovative ways to use them, South Texas Nation Media produced recipes and organized local chefs to demonstrate such delicious approaches to supporting local economy and environment, reducing the miles that food travels from farm to fork while increasing farmer sales. Press releases and site-select outreach helped us spread the word about such tasty innovation, tripling sales and attendance at these markets.
Research for Organizational Development
This flyer produced for the Heart of Lubbock Community Garden is part of research and development intended to identify ideal users for the organization. To identify and to reach these users, South Texas Nation Media engaged several methods of a comprehensive research protocol known as RABBIT — which involves the several steps of product development including researching users, balancing user needs with an organization’s needs, as well as building and testing an operative image. Please click on the flyer to see the analysis.
Organizational Identity in Environmental Economy
This is a cover page for a sponsorship packet that South Texas Nation Media produced for Los Caminos del Rio, which helped raise more than $100,000 in funding from local businesses and city-governments that supported the organization's mission to develop the Rio Grande into a recreational destination for birdwatching, kayaking, hiking, and mountain-bike riding. Such community and environment centered organizational goals are typical of the businesses and non-profits that South Texas Nation Media has assisted in developing organizational identity through the design of visual media and outreach strategy.
The Padre Island Brewing Company
The Padre Island Brewing Company (PIBCO) was the first south Texas licensed brew pub and the second in Texas under the 1993 Texas Brew Pub Laws. Since opening their doors in 1995, PIBCO has perfected a New American Cuisine focus through adherence to heritage recipes and source selection of local shrimp, fish, oysters, and select regional salads, while overall promoting a go-local mindset committed to people and planet. This graphic is one of many social media advertisements that we have developed for PIBCO over the years. Please visit PIBCO's Facebook Page to see more of this work, and make sure to watch some of the videos that we have produced about their famous New American food.
